Shoes History

SNEAKERS
Sneakers go back a long way. In the late 18th century, people wore rubber-soled shoes called plimsols, but they were pretty crude-for one thing, there was no right foot or left foot. Around 1892, the U.S Rubber Company came up with more comfortable rubber sneakers with canvas tops, called keds. (The shoes were called sneakers because they were so quiet, a person wearing them could sneak up on someone.)
In 1917, Marquis Converse produced the first shoe made just for basketball, called Converse All-Stars. In 1923, an Indiana hoops star named Chuck Taylor endorsed the shoes, and they became known as Chuck Taylor All-Stars. These are the best-selling basketball shoes of all time.
Sneakers went international in 1924. That’s when a German man named Adi Dassler created a sneaker that he named after himself: Adidas. This brand soon became the most popular athletic shoe in the world.
During the first half of the 20th century, sports shoes were worn mostly to play sports. But in 1950s, kids began wearing them as fashion statements. Even more teens followed the fad after seeing James Dean in sneakers in the popular movie Rebel Without a Cause.
Sneakers sales really took off in 1984, when Nike signed Michael Jordan to endorse Air Jordan’s-the most famous sneaker ever made. During the 1980s, sneakers became fashionable footwear for kids and adults. Companies like Nike, Reebok and Adidas produced sneakers in wild styles, and new technologies supposedly improved their performance. For example, Reebok’s Pump lets wearers pump air into the shoes to make them fit snugly. Of course, innovations like these come with a price: athletic shoes often cost well over $100 a pair.
Here in the capital the most worn shoes are converse all-star as most of the teens are punk and grunge."Its really light and comfortable to wear adidas sneaker shoes but it is also very difficult to get original ones" says Shelesh Subba who thinks that adidas shoes are great. Even in Katmandu we can find varieties of sneaker shoes from Adidas, Nike, Puma etc…though the price of original sneaker shoes here in the showrooms are sky high.

Musical Instruments

GOOD VIBRATIONS
Musical instruments are grouped into families based on how they make sounds. In an orchestra, musicians sit together in these family groupings. But not every instrument fits neatly into a group. For example, the piano has strings that vibrate and hammers that strike. Is it a stringed instrument or percussion instrument? Some say both!
BRASS
Brass instruments are made of brass or some other metal and make sounds when air is blown inside. The musician’s lips must buzz, as though making "raspberry" noise against the mouthpiece. Air then vibrates inside the instrument, which produces a musical sound.
Brass instruments include the trumpet, trombone, tuba, French horn, cornet and bugle.
PERCUSSION
Most percussion instruments, such as drums and tambourines, make sounds when they are hit. Others, like maracas, are shaken, and still others may be scratched, rubbed or whatever else makes the instrument vibrate and produce a sound.
Percussion instruments include drums, cymbals, triangles, chimes, bells and xylophones.
STRINGS
Yes, the sounds of stringed instruments come from their strings. The strings may be plucked (guitar and harp); bowed (cello and violin); or struck (piano). This creates a vibration that causes a unique sound.
Stringed instruments include the violin, viola, cello, bass, double bass, harp, lute, banjo, guitar and dulcimer.
WOODWINDS
Woodwind instruments produce sound when air (wind) is blown inside. Air might be blown across an edge (flute); between a reed and a surface (clarinet); or between two reeds (bassoon). The sound happens when the air vibrates inside. Woodwind instruments include the flute, piccolo, clarinet, recorder, bassoon and oboe.

Generes of Music

Blues- A style of music that evolved from southern African American work songs and secular (nonreligious) songs. Blues influenced the development of rock, rhythm-and-blues and country music. Some blues musicians include Bessie Smith, Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson.

CLASSICAL-Music that is usually more sophisticated and complex tan other styles of music, Many classical compositions are instrumentals, which means there are no words in the songs. Classical music has it roots in Europe. It includes symphonies, chamber music, sonatas and ballets. Some important classical-music composers are Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Johan Sebastian Bach.
COUNTRY-AND-WESTERN
A form of American music originated in the Southwest and the Southeast in the 1920s. Early country songs often told stories of poor people facing difficult lives. Recent country songs are often hard to tell apart from pop-music songs. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Faith Hill and Keith Urban are popular country music singers.
ELECTRONICA
Music created using electronic equipment, such as synthesizers, samplers, computers, keyboards and drum machines. Electronica is popular dance music. This style of sound became popular in early 1990s. Moby, Fatboy Slim and the Chemical Brothers are popular electronica artists.

FOLK-A style of music that has been passed down orally within cultures or regions. It is known for its simple melodies and the use of acoustic instruments. Modern folk music is based on traditional folk music and often contains political lyrics. Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie and Joan Baez are folk performers.
JAZZ
American music born in the early part of the 20th century from African rhythms and slave chants. It has spread from its African-American roots to become a worldwide style. Jazz forms include improvisation (unrehearsed playing), swing, bebop and cool jazz. Benny Goodman, Miles Davis, Cassandra Wilson and Keith Jarrett are famous jazz musicians.
POP
Popular music is a genre that covers a wide range of music, is often softer than rock and is driven by melody. Pop usually appeals to a broad assortment of listeners. Some famous pop musicians include Frank Sinatra, John Mayer, Hillary Duff and Beyonce.

Jay-z, Run-D.M.C., Missy Elliot and Eminem are rappers.
ROCK

It developed in the early 1950s and has inspired by-many other styles, such as grunge, ska and heavy metal. Some important rock bands are Buddy Holly and the crickets, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Niravana and U2.

Tribute to the Legend

DIMEBAG DARRELL 1966-2004
Dime was truly one of the real heavy metal characters that’s you could look up to. His love for his music is inspiring, no bullshit nowhere, and just pure music. He’s one of the few guitarists that have potentially inspired many others to pick up the instrument. He was the driving force in Pantera’s powerful, raw and high quality music. He has contributed a great deal to the metal world and will be dearly missed. He lived life to the fullest, each and everyday of it and went down doing the thing that he loved more than life itself, playing guitars.
RIP DIME

Dimebag Darrell was an inspiration. One of the greatest guitarists of his era, he was recognized not only for his music, but also his personality. He was not just a great personality, he was a great person. His death was a shock and a loss to the music industry itself. How has it affected the metal industry changed in the past year? I don’t know. Time heals, people move on; one death does not bring a halt to life. Yes, people mourned his death, yet they got back to producing music, just as Dimebag would have wanted to. A man made by his music, a fantastic human being, sorely missed by family, friends and fans alike.

Dimebag Darrell was one of the most innovative and pioneering guitarists of heavy metal. He personified the archetype of a hardworking, persevering, loyal yet decent guitarist that was lacking in the music industry at the time. Playing more than six years in clubs and bars with Pantera, covering their idols Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, he never gave up on music even after the lackluster release and sale of their three independent hair metal releases, Metal Magic, Projects in the Jungle and I Am the Night. Hell, he even denied a spot in Megadeth, when Pantera was relatively unknown because Mustaine wouldn’t take Vinnie as the drummer. Even after achieving superstardom, Dime was never the arrogant and egoistic mofo as many turn into. He was benevolent, helpful, charismatic… and much more.

December 8,2004 A malignant day, the day which the entire metal world and Dime worshiping fans will never forget. An utterly abhorrent act of lunacy might have banished the existence of the guitar god from this world, but not from our hearts, never. Dime lives on, his music and his legacy will always be worshipped and carried on forever. Bereaved and tormented may be our hearts, but we will always shout out loud Dime, you fuck*ng rule!
