Tribute to the Legend

DIMEBAG DARRELL 1966-2004
Dime was truly one of the real heavy metal characters that’s you could look up to. His love for his music is inspiring, no bullshit nowhere, and just pure music. He’s one of the few guitarists that have potentially inspired many others to pick up the instrument. He was the driving force in Pantera’s powerful, raw and high quality music. He has contributed a great deal to the metal world and will be dearly missed. He lived life to the fullest, each and everyday of it and went down doing the thing that he loved more than life itself, playing guitars.

Dimebag Darrell was an inspiration. One of the greatest guitarists of his era, he was recognized not only for his music, but also his personality. He was not just a great personality, he was a great person. His death was a shock and a loss to the music industry itself. How has it affected the metal industry changed in the past year? I don’t know. Time heals, people move on; one death does not bring a halt to life. Yes, people mourned his death, yet they got back to producing music, just as Dimebag would have wanted to. A man made by his music, a fantastic human being, sorely missed by family, friends and fans alike.

Dimebag Darrell was one of the most innovative and pioneering guitarists of heavy metal. He personified the archetype of a hardworking, persevering, loyal yet decent guitarist that was lacking in the music industry at the time. Playing more than six years in clubs and bars with Pantera, covering their idols Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, he never gave up on music even after the lackluster release and sale of their three independent hair metal releases, Metal Magic, Projects in the Jungle and I Am the Night. Hell, he even denied a spot in Megadeth, when Pantera was relatively unknown because Mustaine wouldn’t take Vinnie as the drummer. Even after achieving superstardom, Dime was never the arrogant and egoistic mofo as many turn into. He was benevolent, helpful, charismatic… and much more.

December 8,2004 A malignant day, the day which the entire metal world and Dime worshiping fans will never forget. An utterly abhorrent act of lunacy might have banished the existence of the guitar god from this world, but not from our hearts, never. Dime lives on, his music and his legacy will always be worshipped and carried on forever. Bereaved and tormented may be our hearts, but we will always shout out loud Dime, you fuck*ng rule!
